About the Book

Education is an agent of change in social and economic sphere of a country. Educationally and technically trained population is a big asset but even after 66 years of independence, it is still a dream to attain 100% literacy, (Literacy rate is 74.04% as per census 2011). The government is making sincere efforts to provide quality education and to establish world class institutions on large scale in the country. In 2009 Parliament passed Right to Education Act. The implementation of RTE Act 2009 requires the recruitment of teachers on large scale throughout the country in a time bound manner. In such a large scale recruitment, quality of teachers has to be maintained. The persons recruited as teachers for primary and upper primary level must have that aptitude and ability which is required to face the challenges in class room situation.

Keeping in view all these facts, National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) has laid down the minimum qualifications for the appointment of teachers up to upper primary level. It has been decided that a person having these essential qualifications must also pass the Teacher Eligibility Test which has to be conducted by the appropriate government agency in accordance with the guidelines framed by NCTE. The Government of India has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the Central Teachers Eligibility Test (CTET) to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
