About the Book

The Rivals is a comedy of manners written by Irish-born dramatist Sheridan in five acts. It was his first play which was first performed at Covent Garden, London, in 1775. The play is considered to be one of Sheridan's masterpieces and the term Malapropism was coined in reference to one of the characters in the play - Mrs. Malaprop who proved to be one of the most popular caricatures in English drama.
