Joseph Andrews
Henry Fielding's first novel Joseph Andrews was conceived partly as a satire on Richardson's Pamela. However, the 'comic epic in prose', as he called the work, assumes an identity of its own as it relates in picaresque style the adventures of Joseph Andrews and his companion, Parson Adams. In the process, hypocrisy of the eighteenth century social life in England is held up to ridicule. The present edition of Joseph Andrews provides:
- A Comprehensive Chapter-wise Summary of the Novel
- Detailed Study of the Social and Literary Background of the Novel
- Critical Analysis of various Textual Aspects
- Important University Questions with Answers
- Selected Literary Criticism
