Pygmalion

Henry Higgins, the professor of phonetics, is one of the outstanding characters that Shaw created. With his impetuous temper and enormous confidence in his own knowledge, he undertakes the incredible mission to transform an uncultured, ill-groomed flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, to a suave lady. Though he comes out with flying colours, the play does not strike the conventional romantic note. Shaw, who has natural anathema to so-called romanticism, has emphasised this aspect by adding a brilliant piece of sequel to the play that strips off any romantic illusion which we may tend to associate with it.
