The Guide
The Guide was the eighth novel by R. K. Narayan and was published in 1958. Narayan received the Sahitya Akademi Award and gained universal approbation for this book. The Guide depicts a rogues journey through a maze of illusion and the achievement of universal truth. As in all Narayans stories, The Guide too reflects the author's tendency to propagate oriental philosophy. Here, the illusion or maya is Rosie who entices Raju, the protagonist of the novel. The novel traces Raju's transition from the life active to the life contemplativea transition from illusion (maya) to reality (atman). This edition of The Guide consists of:
